Cardiology

The Department of Cardiology, Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore was founded in 1957 by Dr. Kamala I. Vytilingam, who brought modern cardiology to India after a period of training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore in the early 195Os. She established one of the earliest cardiac catheterization laboratories in India. The DM cardiology training course stated in CMC in 1965. Interventional cardiology started in 1988 and currently the Department provides the following services:

  • Balloon Mitral, aortic, pulmonary and tricuspid valvuloplasty.
  • Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty with stenting.
  • Rotational atherectomy.
  • Device closure of congenital defects such as PDA and ASD.
  • Peripheral vessel angioplasty and stenting.
  • Carotid artery stenting.
  • Alcohol Septal Ablation for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (PTSMA).
  • Endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms using stent grafts.
