There is a wide spectrum of Organophosphorous metabolism observed in OP self poisoned patients. Differences in OP handling by patients are due to the level and chemical nature of the ingested OP compound, and differences in metabolism and clearance of OP compounds in the body. This is due to inter individual variations in many enzymes including, red blood cell acetyl cholinesterase, serum cholinesterase, serum paraoxonase, serum arylesterase. We are interested in identifying and characterizing OP compound ingested in patients ,PON1status, and other enzymes involved in the metabolism of OP. Correlate with clinical outcome to understand this heterogeneity – Dr.R.Selvakumar, Dr.Joe Fleming and Mr.Arun Jose.
