As part of the CSR activities of the REC Foundation, New Delhi, an agreement was signed between the REC Foundation, and the Christian Medical College Vellore (CMC Vellore), on the 29th of November, 2019.
Through this agreement, RECF will support implementation of a population-based program for control of major haemoglobin disorders (thalassemia major and sickle cell disease) focused on reducing the burden of these diseases in Odisha.
Apart from developing a program for reducing the burden of these diseases in the State through preventive strategies, CMC Vellore and the Centre for Stem Cell Research (a unit of inStem, Bengaluru) will help to enhance capabilities in the State with regard to diagnosis and treatment of patients with these diseases including curative options such as stem cell transplantation.
The CSR support is to enhance the program for ‘Control of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease’ which is a part of the major grant for ‘Novel Approaches to Haematological Diseases (NAHD)’ being implemented at CSCR / CMC supported by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.
