Developmental paediatricians play a crucial role in the comprehensive assessment and diagnosis, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and advocacy for families.

Clinical Psychologists:
Psychologist assessments include cognitive and behavioural components, and we use our knowledge to deliver psychological services to infants, toddlers, children and adolescents within their social and cultural settings context. Our focus will be on cognitive development which is the intellectual learning and thought processes of a child, language learning, memory, decision making, problem-solving and imagination, and emotional development. We cater to the needs of the family as well as the child.

Occupational therapists:
Occupational therapists are professionals who are focused on improving the functionality of the child. We target making the child self-sufficient, independent and a contributor to the community. Our individualized therapy programs are provided to help with increasing function, strength and mobility through play activities and exercise programs, improve body awareness and motor planning for motor skills that require higher level coordination, improve eye-hand coordination and perceptual motor skills, improve pre-writing and handwriting skills, increase independence in self-care skills and design aids and adaptive devices.

Speech and language pathologist:
As the name says, we work with speech. Speech in itself has multiple domains which can be affected resulting in either delayed speech or dysfluency. We can provide evaluations and therapeutic recommendations for children experiencing, receptive and expressive Language Disorders, motor speech disorders (dysarthria and apraxia), Autistic Spectrum Disorders, cleft Palate, hearing Impairment (including cochlear implant) and dysphagia (eating and swallowing disorders)

Physiotherapist:
Physiotherapists work with children and their families to identify movement and posture difficulties. We assess, treat and advise on exercises and activities which the child can do with their family and in school. Children with developmental delays of motor skills, musculoskeletal conditions, cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular conditions will be taught activities and exercises in a play-based manner to help children reach their full physical potential.

Developmental Therapist:
A developmental therapist works primarily with infants who are at risk for neurological sequelae. We work on visual, tactile and auditory stimulation to enhance parent-child bonding as well as the attainment of developmental milestones.

Our department and you will be heavily reliant on our support staff. Mrs. Premila will be in charge of all your appointments and bookings as well as any other clarifications you may have. Mr. Shanmugam, our Medical Records Officer will be responsible for all outpatient registrations and bookings when you come to visit us. You may get to know our nurse in charge, Mrs. Mary Premila, during a stay in the Hall of Residence. Mr. Sekar and Mrs. Vijiammal are intrinsic to the running of our department.
