On August 28, 2024, in a significant tribute to a century of unwavering dedication and healing,
CMC Vellore celebrated the 100th anniversary of its Town Campus with the launch of the
Green Wave – A Tree Planting Initiative Across all CMC Campuses and Beyond,’ led by
Dr. Vikram Mathews, Director, and organised by the Office of the General Superintendent
under the guidance of Mr. Reni Charles, General Superintendent. This endeavour highlights
CMC’s evolving mission, now encompassing environmental stewardship and community service.
The initiative proactively responds to the mounting global climate crisis, reaffirming the
institution’s commitment to sustainability.
The inauguration began with a prayer by Ms. Saramma Kuruvilla, Sr. Chaplain, setting
a solemn tone for the event. The Chief Guest, Dr. G.V. Selvam, Vice-President of
VIT University, along with other esteemed guests, including Mr. Somu Govindaraj,
Joint Director of Agriculture Vellore District; Mr. Murugan, Forest Range Officer,
Vellore Forest Division and Mr. Manikandan, Deputy Director of Horticulture Vellore District
graced the occasion. Mr. Reni Charles welcomed the gathering, while Dr. Vikram Mathews
and Dr. I. Rajesh shared felicitations. Mr. Anand John Samuel welcomed the chief guest,
Mrs. Nirmala Samuel gave an overview of the project and Mrs. Sonia Valas proposed
the vote of thanks. A highlight of the ceremony was the award-winning speech
delivered by Mr. Manuel Inbam, an MBBS student at CMC and winner of the
elocution competition, which added a vibrant and youthful energy to the proceedings.
Following the formalities, CMC’s Administrative Officers (AO) and the
guest of honour led the symbolic tree-planting activity across different locations,
reflecting CMC’s practical commitment to environmental care.
The Green Wave Core Team meticulously organised the event, representing members from
various departments including the GS office, Engineering Planning, Prosthetics & Orthotics,
Staff Training, Dietetics, and the Food & Beverages Section. The Green Wave initiative
represents a pivotal move towards sustainability, addressing the urgent need for climate
action amidst a world facing severe environmental challenges. It embodies CMC’s resolve
to contribute to a healthier planet, aligning with global efforts to mitigate climate change.
The Green Wave initiative is a significant stride towards sustainability, aimed at addressing
the pressing need for climate action in a world grappling with severe heatwaves,
accelerating deforestation, and the urgent demand for impactful environmental
solutions. This initiative reflects CMC’s dedication to fostering a healthier planet,
aligning its mission with global efforts to combat climate change.
Planting Seeds of Hope:
The Green Wave initiative stands as a testament to CMC’s century-long dedication to healing,
now expanding its mission to include environmental responsibility. On August 14, 2024, the
RUHSA Campus celebrated another milestone under the Green Wave initiative with an event titled:
Green Beginnings for a Green Future. Each mother of a newborn received a sapling, symbolising
hope for a future. This gesture encouraged families to nurture these saplings alongside their
children, fostering a lifelong connection to the environment and promoting sustainability
from an early age.
Celebrating Environmental Champions:
The Office of the General Superintendent hosted a series of inspiring competitions
on August 21, 2024. The events, featuring seedlings, food carving, slogans, elocution,
and video contests, were met with enthusiastic participation from both staff and
students. Each participant poured their passion into delivering powerful
messages that celebrated environmental stewardship and sustainability.
