Paediatric Orthopaedics

The Paediatric Orthopaedic department treats musculoskeletal problems in children such as broken bones, inability to walk, bone cancer, congenital bone problems, bony deformity and so on. Our highly skilled, well trained and experienced faculty and support staff attend to about 300 outpatients per week and perform up to 1000 surgical procedures a year, covering all aspects of paediatric musculoskeletal problems.
With a vision to provide affordable cutting-edge technology to one and all, we have a dedicated team which focuses on developing indigenous solutions to complex problems through basic science and clinical research.

 

OUTPATIENT SERVICES 

Our outpatient visit days-Tuesdays and Fridays every week between 8.00 am to 4.30 pm. New patients are accepted till 4.00pm. Anyone either general or private patient can make an appointment on the same day to see the doctors. No cut off on the number of patients seen per day. 

Apart from these days any of the consultants can be seen in ALPHA CLINIC on any day.

 

SERVICES IN OUTPATIENT DEPARTMENT:

Club foot clinic: caters for new born and children with congenital talipes equinovarus foot deformity (clubfoot) since birth.

  • Ponseti casting 

  • Tenotomy

  • Regular review for corrected cases

  • Padma Pada brace program 

 

Hip ultra sonogram: 

  •  Screening of infants for hip dysplasia
  •  Follow-up of dysplasia cases identified 

 

Shock wave therapy:

  • For treatment of spasticity in children

 

Tumor and dysplasia clinic:

  • Evaluation, workup and follow up of afflicted children

 

Trauma clinic:

  •  Serves the children with trauma who come for follow up.

 

Minor procedures 

  •  Done in the dressing room/ procedure room in the OPD.

 

Plaster Services

  •  Plaster application in a dedicated room with trained personnel for the plaster procedures.
  •  PRIVATE (consultants see the patients) and GENERAL (junior doctors see the patients) outpatient services are available.

 

Surgical services: 

  •  We perform more than 1500 surgeries per year for children with musculoskeletal problems.

  •  There are two main elective operating days.

  •  Weekly once, day care theatre provides facility for the day care procedures.(1 day stay in the hospital)

  •  We provide surgical care on two elective operating days in CMC Chittoor Campus

  •  Emergency surgeries are done round the clock and trauma cases on Saturday.

  •  Outreach surgeries are done in mission hospitals in various parts of India (Raxoul, Robertsganj, Ranipet, Karigiri, Dimapur, Padhar). 

 

Special surgeries done in the department:

  •  Hip reconstruction โ€“ Safe surgical dislocation, Femoral relative neck lengthening procedures, Acetabular augmentation and redirectional surgeries, various proximal femur osteotomies.-  These are done for various hip pathologies affecting children and young adults.( Perthes disease, Femoroacetabular impingement, Hip Dysplasia, Post-septic sequalae of the hip, PFFD, AVN etc).

  •  Musculoskeletal tumor excision and biological reconstruction using the patientโ€™s own bone.

  •  Musculoskeletal tumor excision and prosthetic replacement.

  • Microvascular free bone transfer.

  •  Ilizarov and Orthofix assisted limb lengthening and deformity correction.

  •  Physeal bar (Growth plate disturbance) excision.

  •  โ€œ8โ€ PLATES  for deformity correction.

  • Arthroscopic procedures for children. Radiofrequency ablation of benign tumors.

In addition to the specialized surgeries, routine Paediatric orthopaedic surgeries are done in the department

 

Other services available:

  • Inpatient physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

  • Orthotic and prosthetic services.

  • Paediatric intensive care unit for postoperative care.
