Plastic Surgery

The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery started in Christian Medical College, Vellore as a subspecialty of Department of Surgery in 1944, and in due course it evolved into a separate super-specialty Department in 1967. As one of the foremost Institutes in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery in the country, it offers specialized treatment in craniofacial, cleft lip and palate, reconstructive, microvascular, cosmetic surgeries and burns. The training course for the Post graduate in M.Ch. (Plastic surgery) was started in 2005. It imparts excellent training to the post graduate trainees in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.  It excels in research in various aspects of Plastic Surgery.
Outpatient Clinics 
Plastic Surgery Unit I: Wednesdays and Saturdays: 8 am to 12 Noon
Plastic Surgery Unit II: Tuesdays and Fridays: 2.00 to 4.30 pm

The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has two units and the OPD service for Unit-I is on Wednesdays and Saturdays (Mornings) and for Unit II on Fridays and Tuesdays (Afternoon).  
Our commonly performed surgeries are:
I. Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery:
• Congenital malformations including Craniofacial Anomalies.
• Facial clefts
• Cleft lip and Palate
• Fractures of Cranio-maxillo mandibular region
• Vascular Malformations
• Congenital Deformities including Microtia.
II. Reconstruction:
• Post Cancer Reconstruction of skin malignancies of Head, Neck and other region
• Post breast Cancer reconstruction
• Post cancer reconstruction of extremities
• Soft tissue and bone reconstruction of face, extremities
• Facial palsy reanimation
• Tissue expansion
• Lymphedema including Manual Lymphatic drainage and Reduction surgeries
III. Aesthetic:
• Esthetic breast surgeries including Breast Augmentation, Breast Reduction and Mastopexy
• Facial rejuvenation with fillers and Botox
• Abdominoplasty
• Liposuction and body contouring 
• Rhinoplasty including Augmentation, Contouring, tip plasty and correction of crooked nose
• Face lift
• Genital esthetic surgery
• Dermabrasion and facial resurfacing
• Fat grafting
IV. Microvascular Surgery:
• Post Cancer and Trauma Reconstruction
• Free tissue transfer reconstruction of Extremities, Breast, Head, Neck, Chest, Back and Genitals
• Re-vascularization
V. Burns:
• Acute burns: Thermal, Electrical and Acid Burns.
• Post burn deformities: Correction of Face, Neck, Scalp, Axilla, Breast, Extremities, abdomen.

The Department of Plastic Surgery CMC Vellore offers super- specialty course in Plastic surgery. A three-year programme to train surgeons to the award of M. Ch (Plastic surgery) was started in the year 2005.  This is recognized by the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR University and Medical Council of India. 
Post Diploma in Burn Nursing is a specialized course in Burns offered to Nurses.
The Department also offers training to the Post graduate students pursuing M.S. General Surgery, M.S. ophthalmology, M.S. ENT.
