The department of Pulmonary Medicine treats people with diseases in the lungs and the other organs involved with the function of breathing.
The clinical services is of the highest standards, supported by state-of-the-art equipment and laboratories. The department is rated among the best in the country. It receives patients from several parts of the country & overseas. Since patients with complex respiratory problems are referred to the department, it has established a strong clinical base. Multidisciplinary teams with the collaborating departments exist for Interstitial lung disease, Thoracic oncology & Radiology. It has the backing of a good thoracic surgery service from the department of cardiothoracic-vascular surgery. The department also has a strong research base, which complements patient care.
Major diseases for which consultation is sought: Bronchial Asthma, COPD, Interstitial lung disease, Bronchiectasis, Post-TB & Post-COVID lung diseases, Sarcoidosis, Pulmonary embolism, Pulmonary hypertension, Pleural Effusion, Lung and thoracic cancers, Sleep disordered breathing (including Sleep apnoeas), Lung infections such as Tuberculosis, Bacterial & Fungal infections.

a) Our laboratory support services includes a state-of- the art pulmonary function, exercise physiology and sleep labs.
b) We also have diagnostic bronchoscopy, medical thoracoscopy and also therapeutic bronchoscopy services.
c) The respiratory research wing of our department is involved in research activities related to respiratory diseases.

MD in Respiratory Medicine
One year distance education cum contact course in Diploma in Allergy & Asthma which is offered through collaboration with International Asthma Services, Colorado, USA.
A two year residential course leading to a Fellowship in Pulmonology.
Post-Graduate Diploma in Advanced Respiratory Therapy.

Clinic Timings
Patients are seen in the OPD block, No.111 and 600A.
Our outpatient consultation days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 am to 4.30 pm. On Saturday, the timing is from 8 am to 1 pm. Private consultation is done on Monday and Thursday. After getting an appointment, the patient has to go to the OPD block, No.111 and 600A.
