Report on World Breastfeeding Week

College of Nursing CMC Vellore, Chittoor Campus: The College of Nursing and Obstetrics & Gynecology department organised a health awareness programme for World Breastfeeding Week from 1st to 7th August 2024, under the theme “Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All.” Mrs. Sophia J(faculty) and Ms. Jane Sandhya(tutor) from the College of Nursing, Chittoor Campus, led the event, which included competitions such as essay writing, poster making, video making, and cooking for staff and students. On August 7th, 2024, an awareness programme was organised in the patient waiting area of the Chittoor Campus. Mrs. Nirmala Margaret P., Principal, College of Nursing (CMC Vellore Chittoor Campus), welcomed the gathering.

The Chief Guest, Mrs. Nirmala Manoharan, former Professor of OBG Nursing, CON-CMC Vellore, addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of breastfeeding. Mrs. Alice Sony, Nursing Superintendent; Dr. Leah Thomas, Acting Deputy MS (OPD services), Chittoor Campus; and Dr. Annie Prasanthi, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chittoor Campus, offered felicitations. Posters and models on breastfeeding were showcased, while roleplay and a theme song were performed by the 3rd and 4th-year B.Sc. Nursing students from the College of Nursing. Patients attending outpatient services, along with their relatives, actively participated and benefited from the programme. On 10th August 2024, the 4thyear B.Sc. Nursing students from the College of Nursing, CMC Vellore Chittoor Campus, conducted a health education programme in Mapakshi and Pasumandha villages, Chittoor, as part of World Breastfeeding Week. Throughout the week, staff provided specialised health education to mothers in the wards and outpatient departments (OPDs).
